Vicks is temporary back in Rotterdam Zoo
May, 2013
Polar bear Vicks is back in Rotterdam Zoo for a little while. According to plan he should travel from Sweden to the Mulhouse Zoo in France, his definite destination. Due to the lag in building of the new bear enclosure in Mulhouse his journey has to be postponed. In October 2012 Vicks was sent to the Swedish bear park in Orsa to winter. Together with a young female from Ouwehands Zoo he spent a nice time in a huge enclosure. In the meantime the vast window that Vicks had damaged with a large stone could be replaced. But the “rightful owners” of the enclosure in Orsa Park have woken up from their hibernation and claim their own enclosure. Vicks can now be admired in his “old” enclosure in Rotterdam Zoo next to the enclosure of mum Olinka and dad Eric. Read more > Vicks is leaving Rotterdam Zoo

Polar bear cub enjoying the outside world
March 30th, 2011
Polar bear cub Vicks is having the time of its life in the outside exhibit. Supervised by mum Olinka the entire area is explored: running or at a gallop, clambering rocks, splashing in the big pool, rolling in the grass, playing with stones and twigs and often turning head over heels. Mum is well-pleased with it and is also visibly enjoying the fresh air after staying for over three months in the maternity den. Watch films of Vicks on our YouTubeChannel. The polar bear cub that was born on December 6th 2010 has been ‘adopted’ by Vicks. The young one parented by polar bear mum Olinka and dad Eric will not be aware of the fact that from now on she will be referred to as ‘polar bear Vicks’. Of course it will be cared for and housed as always, but part of the cooperation is that the sponsor is allowed to link its name to the cub. Vicks also contributes to the care of the polar bear cub and a united campagne will be run in which the polar bear webcam plays an important part. In zoos and also in Rotterdam Zoo it is not new to name animals after sponsors’ products. Read more>>
